In April, 2021, painter Ann Braunsteiner joined two dancers and a cellist on stage for A Song, A
Dance, and a Painting, performed at the Suter Theatre, Nelson.
Complex, layered relationships are at the centre of this performance – relationships between the
performers, between performer and audience, between time and history but perhaps more acutely
between art forms.
These relationships begin to unfold and reveal themselves as Ann moves with brushes in hand at her
beautifully crafted ‘easel’, Raeul performs with cello on a moveable platform and Bjorn moves as a
contemporary dancer, fully present in his bodily gestures and interactions with the others –
sometime partnering with a young classical ballet dancer.
